Adolescence happens to everyone. In between childhood
and adulthood, every person must experience the state of
being a teenager. This stage can be confusing and
frustrating, as teens try to discover who they are and
what they want for their futures, while at the same time
trying to cope with the changes their bodies are going
through and other influential outside challenges.
One of the most important things to understand as a teenager is how to
remain healthy through all of these changes. The
following information and resources will help you learn
more about a teenager’s body, their mental health,
physical health, teenage substance use, and sexuality.

Action For Healthy
Kids: teaching kids to be healthy!
Action
for Healthy Kids
addresses childhood
undernourishment, obesity
and prevention by working
with schools to help kids
learn to eat right and be
active every day. This focus
is because of the unique
position and influence that
schools have on children and
their families, in addition
to their responsibility to
provide nutrition and
physical education and their
many opportunities to
promote healthy eating and
active living.

A Kids Guide
to Health and the Human Body
http://www.belairdentist.com/a-kids-guide-to-health-and-the-human-body/
Your body is a network of
different organs and systems
that all work together. Each
part of your body must be
kept healthy so that you can
enjoy doing things like
playing with your friends
and going to school. It’s
important to learn about the
body and how it works so
you’ll know how and why you
need to take good care of
all of its different parts.
Think of the skeletal system
of your body like the frame
of a house that is designed
to hold everything together.
This system helps protect
your organs and keep them
from getting injured. Your
ribcage protects organs like
the heart and lungs, and
your skull protects your
brain. The bones of your
skeletal system are linked
together with cartilage,
ligaments, and joints that
help your bones move. This
very important system in
your body is what helps you
run, jump, and play, and it
gives you your shape:
Without bones, you’d be a
pile of organs and muscles
on the floor! Inside of your
bones is a substance called
marrow that is filled with
red and white blood cells.
Healthy Nutrition for Your
Mouth, Gums and Teeth!
A healthy diet will help
your bones and muscles to
grow strong and for all of
your body's systems to work
together, so you can stay
healthy. Plus, a healthy
diet is necessary to keep
your mouth, gums and teeth
in good shape, too. Whatever
you eat first passes through
your mouth, and usually
requires some chewing with
your teeth and gums. If you
choose to eat unhealthy
foods regularly, it will be
very difficult to maintain a
healthy smile, even with
good dental practices like
brushing and flossing. Learn
about the best foods for
your dental health to keep
all your pearly whites
looking and feeling good.

Ellyn
Satter seems to direct this book at parents with minimal
cooking experience or desire. She explains useful tips for
adapting foods for little eaters and how to round out meals
with appealing vegetables and desserts. I love this book! A
great companion to Child Of Mine: Feeding with Love and
Good Sense, because it provides lots of recipes to help
apply the very sensible eating principles from Child Of
Mine. This book was written with a very simply and easy
approach to help understand a healthier diet. The style is
simple, has some really great ideas and advice. There are
recipes also. The book was just on so matter of fact without
all the glitz it applies common sense instead which was this
a wonderful book.

Do
you have zero control over your life? What are your
frustrations? Do you lead a lazy lifestyle? To help teens take
charge of their lives, Jay McGraw has created a companion
workbook to his bestselling
Life Strategies for Teens.
The workbook is based on 10 "Life Laws" (adapted from his father
Phillip C. McGraw's tenets), and is designed to help teens "see
your life clearly, to understand what the problems are, what you
need to fix, change, get rid of, etc." He encourages readers to
put their thoughts, ideas, and dreams into writing to help them
through the process. (The workbook is meant to be written in.)
He demands that his readers ask themselves hard questions about
missed opportunities, perceptions, self-sabotage, and personal
shortcomings so they can figure out what's not working and fix
it. Why? So that they can turn dreams into goals--with specific
timelines and strategies. Here you'll find a variety of quizzes,
activities, and questions to help teens answer the question "Who
am I?" For example, McGraw asks readers to list 10 times they've
dropped the ball--and why. Or, conversely, to list their 15 best
achievements to date. The workbook also contains questions
designed to challenge assumptions, such as "What are things you
automatically, reactively feel and believe about members of the
opposite sex/teachers/parents?" A hardcore guide to removing
obstacles from our lives, Life Strategies for Teens Workbook
has all the compassion of a drill sergeant... one who knows
what's good for you. (Ages 13 and older)
